History

We believe that there must be a broad and viable movement to change factors, policies and perceptions that make and keep people poor. The Alabama Coalition Against Hunger (ACAH) is a component of the Alabama Council on Human Relations, Inc. (ACHR), a private non-profit organization, serving Alabama's residents, especially those living with low incomes, since 1954.

 Our Mission

The mission of the Alabama Coalition Against Hunger is to end hunger in Alabama by working to provide all residents, as a matter of right, guaranteed access to quantities of nutritious foods sufficient to promote health and general well-being.

What ACAH Is Doing Right Now

ACAH currently is conducting Earned Income Tax Credit outreach in cooperation with the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and promoting an expanded version of the Earned Income Tax Credit as a component of comprehensive tax and welfare reform in Alabama. In addition to general advocacy, outreach and public education, present ACAH projects include:

The School Breakfast Expansion Project
The Alabama Hunger Hotline:  phone 1-800-622-3079
The ACAH Gardening Project
The Campaign to End Childhood Hunger
The Alabama Organizing Project
The Southeast Regional Anti-Hunger Network
